Wishing her well on her "travel" and as the saying goes, we meet again, don't know when, don't know where.

Sorry Catweazle, you'll just have to have another, and have one to Babz, don't know if she was in your contacts, but she's been in mine for many years now, it's a sad loss of a special lady.

It's always hard to get bad news, but we have lost one of our favourite ladies, good friend, online buddy, messenger contact. Babz [Barking Madonna] in the UK. I'd like to reprint this from Babz' site. Rest in Peace Babz.

From the birth of the dawn to the death of sunset,
From the full of the Moon to the Dark that we've met...
I feel there within me a rage & a storm,
But for those who I see I maintain my form...
Wherever I am, and with whom I shall be,
I become part of them; they become me.......

The start of the day brings me people to see,
And every which way there are changes in me,
For whoever I'm close to Their hearts become mine;
And whatever I do, Through me their souls shine...
Whatever I turn into, their thoughts direct;
With feelings that come from you, I cant select......

At the end of the evening, the angst feelings keep;
I sing as they sing and I weep as they weep...
For there is within me a conflict extreme;
I just wish to see that this is a dream...
For wherever I fall in the depths of the night;
With me come all on whom I've lain sight...
Wherever I am and on those who I see...
I become part of them, they become me......

That's me.

Ehee! I was getting in a bit early, it's still a few days until 02.02.12, then I might even kick back with a shot of vodka. This site is a compilation of so many peoples experiences and knowledge, that's what's made it was what we have today.

Jan! You have to paint it.. whether it's just a scale model or the real thing. As Juris once said to me, "No rust, no bust". And yes, I like David's Mustang too, that's a real classic.
redrangemagnum wrote on Jan 28
Hi All,

Hey JD, the model looks great!! I can not be bothered to paint mine! And David, I think you made a right decision to change the HD for a Mustang Mach 1! Hope you have a lot of joy out of the car.
Tomorrow,JD.
Take care and save riding.

Eugene's on the ball, a "step threaded bolt", ie different thread on each end to suit, thats how they come anyway.

Mike, think my little DKW project will have to be the plain version, I think it will be ok without the "upgrade".
goldthorpe wrote on Jan 25
JD, you'll be wanting this then http://www.bnamodelworld.com/detailing-upgrade-sets/for-1-35-armour/photo-etched-parts/upgrade-set-for-1-35-dkw-nz350-motorcyle-for-tamiya-35241

Re final drive bolts - I'd be tempted just to enlarge the holes....
eugener11 wrote on Jan 25
Or simply drill your arm accurately to 10mm holes...
eugener11 wrote on Jan 25, edited on Jan 25
Solution is quite common and used in other cossacks when repairing: order or find a swap with double thickness bolt, 10mm one end , 8mm other. This is also used when a double nut bolt is torn out from Al alloy engine casing: you can cut bigger thread and screw in repair size bolt, e.g. if it were 10mm, cut 11 or 12 only at the point what should be screwed in(the rest of length be same diameter and other dimensions), a step threaded bolt this may be called also. I'd recommend this in Andy's case. Or replace new cover with old one if acceptable.
jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25
Hi Andy, I noticed the final drive bolts grew larger from the MT-10 to the MT-11 around 1990. I think the larger ones must be stronger and beefier. I've got the earlier smaller ones and they've been fine, but I reckon the more meat the better. Mind you, Ural these days have gone to just two studs... don't know why? Cheaper for 2 studs than four? If I had the option I'd go for four large studs.
andyzzzz wrote on Jan 25
Hi All,
I've just bought a new final drive unit for my K-750, but the 4 studs which hold the unit onto the swinging arm are bigger (10mm) than the old unit (8mm). I assume at some point these studs were enlarged in the design - any ideas when this was?
What should I do? Swap the end-covers or drill the swinging arm?
Many thanks,

Andrew

PS. Just wanted to say that this site is superb! I would be totally lost without this wealth of information & knowledge.
Also, I must get one of those model M72s!

Mike, you got me, I've ordered a 1/35th scale DKW NZ350, glutten for punishment I am. Actually I find model making calming, and sometimes more intricate than the real thing. 1/35th is quite small to get the detail right. My R12 did come with two sets of "chaps", one version holding a pig in the sidecar for dinner, but I thought I'd do this one just all bike, black and chrome. Did I mention I already have a whole shelf of 1/35th models, but the last one I did was over 30 years ago, so its good to pick up the knife, minitature files and size 1 brush again. One trick I picked up on was melting leftover plastic bits over a candle and thus making custom bits and pieces. Besides, this rain isnt going to ever end.
goldthorpe wrote on Jan 24
And talking of scale models, if David gets frustrated with his 1:1 scale model, there's always this to act as a distraction ;-)
http://www.internetmodeler.com/1999/december/first-looks/tamiya_dkw.htm
With a tiny bit of modification, it can turn from WWII DKW to 1950s Izh :-)
goldthorpe wrote on Jan 24
:-) Nice model there, JD! Think mine comes with these chaps like in this link http://militarymodels.co.nz/2011/10/10/new-from-zvezda-soviet-motorcycle-%D0%BC-72/
Hoping the box arrives soon - then I can disappear into my little room and lock wife and kids out ;-)
jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24
David [izh49] has posted some photos of his "two-piece axle" and rear "rubber cush drives", very interesting David, quite different to my old Voskhod's setup, similar yet different.

You can see more over on Davids site: http://izh49.multiply.com
jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24
Mike in NZ, re the scale models, congrats on getting yourself a Zvezda (Russian-made) 1/35th scale model of a Soviet M-72 with sidecar to build. That's the good news. I've been after an M-72 myself to add to my collection of models.

I hope you can send in a photo or two when it's finished :-)

I have just spent the last 2 months painstakingly putting together another model from the same Zvezda lineup, a BMW R12 with sidecar!

here's some photos. I decided to go with black and chrome on this one instead of plain grey or cammo. Sorry for taking so long to reply, but I only put the finishing touches on it today (the handlebars and spare wheel), whew! at least it is done.

then there's this one, again by the Zvezda range, and M-72 with a cargo box. I wouldn't mind taking on one of these one either!

Good luck with the M-72 and take some photos! :-)

David, maybe the cush rubbers are close to, but not symetrical. My Voskhod has rubbers that aren't but it is obvious, and they can only go in one way.
I'm sure you'll outsmart it. Have fun.
izh49 wrote on Jan 21
Andrew, you are indeed wise. I like the talc powder idea. I will give that a try. I will post some pics of the whole assembly. It is different than anything I've seen before, a two piece rear axle( go figure). But maybe this is more common than I know. Thanks for the help.
laikadog wrote on Jan 21
Hi David, I've seen a couple of different cush drive designs. One where the sprocket 'hub' has it's own bearing onto the axle and another where the similar part is held onto a protruding part of the wheel hub and held there by a circlip - no bearing, just a bush as there is only a bit of jiggling, not rotation. I scored an old TS Suzuki with this latter type and it is real wobbly in this area so I'll be finding out all about it one day I guess.
If your bearings & axle are good and you reckon it's in the rubbers, maybe put talc powder or water on the driving lugs and when you slip it together you will see where the rubber is being contacted, and go from there. (Wear your 'glasses :-) ) You'll figure it out.
I'm changing truck tyres today - it'll be 40deg.C+ today - would certainly rather play with bike bits inside! The things we do!
izh49 wrote on Jan 21
Good point JD, I will inspect the condition and consistancies of the cush system today. It will be a great day to be in the garage, as it is minus 5 degrees and we recieved about 6 inches of snow. Maybe I will move to your neck of the woods, no snow and I could ride year round. That sounds good to me:)
