TMZ-53
this is sort of the USSR's big brother to the BMW R-75
Could the TMZ-53 be even a predecessor of design of the Zundapp KS750 and BMW R-75, developed in Russia as Germany was fordidden to produce such things, so they may well have used Russia as a breeding ground...
It uses the unique BMW R75 bolt on type frame! How come? It has the hi/lo gearbox and sidecar wheel drive.
very little is known about this machine. Could it have been in development for some time BEFORE 1942? Quite possible?

TMZ-53. Made in Tuemen, Tuemenskiy Machine-building Factory, Tyumenskiy Mototsikletniy Zavod (Тюменский мотоциклетний завод), 200 or so klm east of Irbit. It's in the Polytechnic Museum in Moscow. Designed by Ya.V. Kagana. *Several hundred were built between 1942-43. Only one is believed to have survived the war.
The engine is a 1000cc sidevalve HO twin based on the M-72 crankcase. Gearbox, final drive, sidecar drive and frame are modelled on the BMW R75. Wheels are 16" using car tyres. 28 h.p. at 4800 rpm. Max. speed 90 km/h - SteveW.
The only other motorcycle on Earth to use this frame was the BMW R-75, like I said, how come?
Note the outlet nut in the exhaust pipe of the RH cylinder! This was also used on BMW R75 and Zundapp KS750 to heat the sidecar.
There is a report from Dirk that another may exist in Germany...
more notes from Steve W.
The TMZ-53 was only ever a prototype and it appears only two were ever built and may have used BMW R75 parts for the sidecar drive. Prototypes can be knocked together in a few months by a dedicated team, reaching full scale production takes much longer. What killed the TMZ-53 project was probably the need to conserve aluminium for aircraft production. While crankcases, gearboxes and final drives for the M-72 were "easily" cast in cast iron, the sidecar drive casting was far more complex and too difficult to redo in cast iron.
from a conversation with Aleksandr Bulanov. We think the *"several hundred" may have been TIZ-AM-600 built at TMZ or even M-72 assembled at TMZ from IMZ supplied parts. Somehow Aleksandr managed to acquire the TMZ production/other records and when the permanent home of the Motorcycle Museum is built, and he has time to scratch himself he'll undoubtedly be able to sort it all out.
It wouldn't surprise me that BMW developed a 1000 cc SV version of the R75 as it would've been much cheaper to produce. Maybe that's what Dirk is talking about.
an eye-witness account:
"Visited potlitekhnicheskiy museum. The purpose of visit - to look on retro motorcycles, in chasnosti per head of my grandfather, well is simple to the different wheelbarrows and the carts. After paying for the entrance many unreal money (azh entire 20 rubles, 3t for the students), proto-fall into the hall with the technology. It is complicated to describe that enthusiasm, in which I arrived costing in the dirty polyethylene curtains, on which visela of pisyul'ka "entrance was forbidden", after which there was the hall with the motorcycles. Sounds like the "grandmother-dandëlion" had to beat him off with a big stick!
