Another pop-quiz mystery machine Andy sent in this one. Thanks Andy! I've seen something very similar, somewhere, but I cant put a finger on it. I think it might be German, or East European? Or is it a backyard crazy idea of what can be done? Can anyone recognize it or know what it is? It would be interesting to find out more about this machine! Let's try another pop-quiz/poll.
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 23, '11 Question 10 should have read "none of the above / prototype"
Anyway, cast your vote in the poll and someone may even know what it is. |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 23, '11 Something tells me it is not American.
If you cant vote its because youre reading this via your email, you have to log in to the site proper to vote (I think). |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 23, '11, edited on Jan 25, '11 Only 1 vote so far, mine? I picked "military" as the thing looks almost bulletproof. I can see this has been viewed 151 times so far, oh well, you dont have to participate in the poll if you dont want to. Maybe I asked the wrong questions in the poll? Anyway, feel free to reply and leave a comment. Maybe a prize to whoever can tell us what it is. |

 | its a good puzzler but i had to laugh at the choice of ugly or beautiful! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 23, '11 Hi Heather, I have to assume you voted Rat Bike, which is probably a most appropriate choice :-) |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 23, '11 or "Beautiful"... your votes are annonimous :-) |
 | it was a prototype from NASA for the moon landing back in the sixty's .or i thing the Germans had a go at bulding a vesper scooter |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11, edited on Jan 24, '11 yes it looks like a "lunar" special, something devolped during the full moon! |
 | and best ridden with a full moon. oops i did mean the moon in the sky not some bare-assed rider!!!!!!! |
 | looks like office boy had nothing to do. interesting though. |
 | Maybe it's a military prototype... |
 | It looks Military but I voted East European because that is where I think it originated. The lights look like they are the dimmed night lights which give out minimal lighting only. The wheels indicate it is designed for rugged terrain. It is covered maybe to prevent coats/clothing from snagging or to minimise noise. But I could be totally wrong :) |
 | It's probably the first prototype of how a Harley should be. Somewhere on the line they screwed it up and added blingbling. I voted beautiful, because there wasn't a box that said very cool.:-P It isn't a ratbike it's not matt black. Also it's not military because of the lack of camouflage, or standard issue green. So it's a home-built special, should be featured in a post apocalyptic-movie though. |
 | It is shielded from weather/elements, it may have sound reduction, and yet can be operated very cleanly in urban use, was not very popular as the multitude of covers get lost, dented etc.....Ken |
 | Im with J i think it might be Italian, reminds me of a Moto Rummi scooter on steroids !maybe its an early stelth scooter!! its great i want one |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 The seats look worn, so it may have "had a life" or maybe Andy just conjured it up his his photoshop :-) Does that stand fold back to become the two footpegs? |
 | yeah the italians like there suites so they totaly enclose the engine so that no oil gets on there nice Armani while poppin out for the pizza |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 Looking at the solid front forks I'm thinking late 1940s, 1950s... Mark might be right, it might be for bullet-proof pizza deliveries! |
 | yeah the petol tank looks flat like you could ballence a 12" meat feast with extra chillie |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 i had to laugh at the choice of ugly or beautiful! Heather, thats the first two things that came to mind :-)
I think I should have made Italian one of the poll choices... |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11, edited on Jan 24, '11 Could it be a Moto Guzzi Falcone under all that cowling, but where's that large external flywheel? Maybe thats what the hole's for? Maybe it's for the crank handle? Nah....? just thinking out loud. |
 | Hi J yes didnt the falcone have a V engine one facing forward and one facing down it definatly has that shape |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 No Mark, the Guzzi Falcome was a 498cc single cylinder produced from 1950 to 1967, unlike later Guzzi V-twins and then there was Ducatti Bolognaise. |
 | I saw a Falcone once on a rally, but i was very hungover ,maybe thats why it had an extra cylinder, very nice though |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11, edited on Jan 24, '11 I saw a V-triple once! It was a NSU two-stroke, with two upright cylinders, and the third (middle) cylinder sticking out facing forwards, and acted as a compressor. True! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 The Guzzi Falcone did have a forward facing cylinder. The high tension (spark plug) lead seems to be in the right place. Could it be? With all the cowlings its almost impossible to tell! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 It's an interesting machine, whatever it is! |
 | I will help you guys ! Of course it's Dutch, an home build machine done in the hippie era by a guy who smoked toooooo much weeds LOL
Naztrovje comrads
grt Cat |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 24, '11 I was going to mention the possibility of it being a Dutch invention, but perhaps it is as Mr Catweazle subscribes... got any proof of that Mr Catweazle? or do we take your word for it being Dutch! Nederveet! I wouldn't be half surprised, but what is underneath the covers? |
 | Hi Guys, Hey JD, every time I want to vote next to the bike the text disappear! I think it is a East European army bike somehow. I also seen the engine of Dave and it might be a Fiat 500 or a Citroen "Deux Chevaux" 650cc. Anyway, keep them coming Andy and Cat might be right as well. Have to keep them Dutchies happy! Everone have a nice Australia Day. Jan |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25, '11 every time I want to vote next to the bike the text disappear! Hi Jan, you will need to ask Michael what's going on in your computer, might be a cookie setting that's blocking you.
On that note, hey Catweazle, get your butt over here, we are dying of neglect of your sand-cookies.
Could this mystery machine be Dutch? Sure it could be, but we need to find out more about it for sure, not just by smoking nederveet! |
 | To me, it looks to have some front suspension, which is distinctive in appearance - maybe a link to the ID? Is that a drivechain case on the outside of any swingarm at the rear and it looks to be rigid? I like the front mudguard, looks like too much trouble to make in the backyard. Where are the next clues Andy?! :-) I would tick the 'bizzare' box in the quiz if there was that option. I might have a few drinks then take another look! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25, '11 I was just talking to Catweazle on the phone, and no, he doesn't have a clue what it is either..
Fire engine.. yes it would look good painted red! But we are no closer to finding out what it is... |
 | tracta wrote on Jan 25, '11, edited on Jan 25, '11 tige thinks it may be ugly russian technology, looks like something as ugly as the russians would build |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25, '11 I dont think its Russian, it seems to somehow have Italian or German traits about it. Maybe it was Count Dracúlas personal ride from Transylvania? Could it be a doppelgánger? |
 | im wondering if it was perhaps an outdoor sculpture, hence the weathering. tige looked at this bike for a while and was wondering where the levers and pedals such as brakes etc were and if it drove was it a one speed auto. the front suspension or lack of central front forks were a concern to him. it is certainly a good thought and discussion provoker |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25, '11, edited on Jan 25, '11 Ye olde girder front forks would be quite effective, German motorcycles (as well as others, even Russians) used this type of front fork. It looks like the hole on the left side might have been a crank lever for starting (?) or a gearshift might have gone there? It a pity we only have the one photo, it would be good to see the right hand side, plus a front and rear photo. Andy! If you can find more, please send! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 25, '11 You wouldnt want to hit yr nuts on that tank if you ran into anything! (boys only need worry). A guy up the road had a head-on with a Mercedes years ago, and there were two definite indentations in his fuel tank, ouch! He was limping for a month or two. |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Jan 28, '11 "Ugly" 1 vote... who picked Ugly? where's your taste? Shame on you. It's got more style and flair than a Chinese Tincan Gongan! |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Mar 23, '11 ok, "Ugly" 2 votes. I still thinks it's a .... ......! |
 | after 2 months are we any closer to discovering what this bike is exactly? |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Mar 23, '11 |
 | It must be European. If you look at the décor of the shop. It isn't African or Oriental. There are some kind of bicycles behind the bike, so that rules Australia ;-P and America out. And I think eastern Europe as well? The light outside could be from western/northern Europe and the Merc as well.;-). About the the trees I'm not sure. Maybe this is helpful? Don't forget I'm no Sherlock Holmes. Ps I saw a modern version of the signal lights on a Bmw motorcycle. Some kind of a GS. Greetings from a sunny Holland, at last. |
 | jdmt9 wrote on Mar 24, '11 I think I'm with David that it could be European... Its a pity Andy cant remember where he found it on the internet, he just saved it and sent it in. Thanks Andy :-) For now the consensus of the poll is its a home made one off special and its beautiful :-) One day somebody might know for sure what it is. |
